Italian Phone Numbers: Required Documents for Each Client Type
Companies, sole traders and individuals: identity, address evidence and local prefixes.
03/11/2026 – Agendly
An Italian local phone number needs a verified end user and documented address information. The registration checklist distinguishes private individuals, legal entities and sole traders. Selecting the correct client type is the first step in preparing the documents.

Checklist reviewed: 3 November 2026. This guide describes the documents for Agendly’s local-number review. Documents must match the actual end user and requested number type; acceptance follows review of the submitted evidence.
Italian geographic numbers keep their initial zero in international format. Como’s 031 becomes +39 031, and Naples’ 081 becomes +39 081. Do not remove that zero when choosing the prefix for your profile.
Identity information required for review
Prepare the relevant person’s first and last name, date and place of birth, nationality, gender and contact email. For private individuals and sole traders, prepare the personal Italian tax code, or codice fiscale. Agendly’s current form also collects the representative’s tax code for company profiles.
Provide a valid identity card or passport, with front and back where applicable. The review also requires the document type, issuing authority, document number, issue date and expiry date. A readable scan is important because the document and the entered details must agree.
For EU orders, a valid identity card or passport from another EU member state can be reviewed as local identity evidence. This does not remove the Italian address requirements.
Private individual: required documents
The private-individual client type is for personal, non-commercial use at the individual’s residence.
Submit the identity document and proof of the address in Italy dated within the last three months. Supply the personal information and tax code listed above. A VAT number and business registration certificate are not part of the private-individual checklist.
Company or legal entity: required documents
Provide the company name and VAT number, business registration evidence in Italy, and the authorized representative’s identity and contact details.
Submit:
- Company registration certificate.
- Identity card or passport of the authorized representative.
- Recent proof of the address in Italy.
The legal-entity review also requires the representative’s residential address in Italy. Have that information ready alongside the company address; they identify different parts of the application.
Sole trader: required documents
A sole trader is a business owned by an individual. Prepare the owner or authorized representative’s identity details and document, the personal tax code, business name, VAT number and the business registration certificate.
Submit the identity document, evidence of business registration in Italy and recent proof of the Italian address. A sole trader’s VAT and business evidence are required even though the owner is an individual.
File format, address and presence
All documents for Italian local-number registration must be submitted as PDF files. Keep the whole document readable, including dates, addresses and both sides of identity documents where applicable.
Provide the complete Italian address: street, building number, five-digit postal code, city and country. The end user must be physically present in Italy when purchasing the number. Verify the date on the address evidence before submitting it.
One profile for Como and another for Naples
Use a separate compliance profile for each country and local prefix. If you need both a Como 031 number and a Naples 081 number, create two prefix profiles and submit the documentation appropriate to each request.
An approval for one prefix does not automatically approve another. Keep the earlier profile and its approval while the additional profile is reviewed. The number selected for an order must match the approved profile’s scope, and the relevant location details remain subject to review.
Local numbers and mobile availability
This guide covers geographic local numbers. Mobile-number purchase availability and the ability to call mobile destinations are separate features. The Agendly purchase flow described here does not offer mobile numbers. The local-number checklist should not be used to infer eligibility for a mobile or toll-free product.
FAQ
Does a private individual need a VAT number?
No. The private-individual checklist requires personal identity, tax-code and address evidence. VAT details apply to legal entities and sole traders.
Can I use one approved profile for Como and Naples?
Create a separate prefix profile for each. This keeps the documents and approval linked to the geographic scope of each request.
Does uploading the PDFs activate the number?
No. Document submission, review, available-number selection and activation are separate stages. Uploading the files does not guarantee a specific number or activation date.
